“Building Your Toolbox” videoconference series

“Building Your Toolbox” is a monthly educational series that teaches individuals different pain management strategies or skills from an expert. It’s conducted using the Zoom Meeting platform, which allows participants to interact directly with the speaker, see and hear one another. While we encourage you to join via video, you can still participate and benefit from the series without video.

The series is held on the first Tuesday of every month at 7:30 pm ET, and it’s led by a U.S. Pain representative. The event follows a particular format, which includes a welcome message, a brief presentation from a speaker about a specific pain modality, and an open Q&A and discussion with participants.

NOTE: By registering for all or part of this series, you acknowledge and agree to the terms of our waiver.

Breathwork: Why It Actually Works for Chronic Pain

Join Dr. Jason Winkelmann, ND, DC, for an interactive discussion on the overlooked physiological driver behind much of chronic pain: tissue oxygen deprivation. Dysfunctional breathing patterns, often developed unconsciously in response to pain and stress, can reduce oxygen delivery to tissues, alter blood chemistry, and keep the nervous system locked in a state that amplifies pain signaling. Breathwork isn’t a relaxation add-on. It is a direct, mechanistic intervention on the physical, biochemical, and neurological systems driving your symptoms.

Participants will learn:

  • Why shallow or dysfunctional breathing patterns reduce oxygen delivery to tissues and how this contributes to pain
  • The biochemical relationship between breathing and nervous system reactivity
  • How chronic tension and altered breathing mechanics reinforce each other in a feedback loop
  • How to use targeted breathing techniques to interrupt this cycle during moments of increased pain
  • How to build a brief, sustainable practice that creates lasting physiological change, not just momentary relief
  • How to incorporate this safely into daily life, even with limited time or mobility
