Boom! Pow! Woosh! Who is that superhero? It’s you!

From December 3–5 and December 10–12, Pediatric Pain Warriors and their families came together for an inspiring virtual retreat, “What’s Your Superpower?” This two-weekend event was packed with fun, education, and connection, all centered around celebrating the incredible strengths of young warriors and their supporters.

Kicking Off with Pete the Penguin Warrior

The retreat began with a lively welcome party where families got a sneak peek at the exciting activities ahead. Participants unboxed their retreat kits and met Pete the Penguin Warrior, the event’s mascot, as they built their own plush penguins.

Unleashing Superpowers Through Art and Advocacy

On Saturday, young warriors explored their unique strengths in an art therapy session, decorating t-shirts for their penguins to reflect their personal superpowers. Meanwhile, parents and caregivers attended an informative session on treatment options, learning how to choose the right path for their superheroes. The night wrapped up with a fun-filled paint party for the entire family.

Sunday’s sessions empowered children and parents alike to become advocates for themselves and their superheroes. Children learned how to share their stories, while parents received guidance on advocating for their children in various aspects of life.

Week Two: Learning, Sharing, and Celebrating

The second weekend kicked off with an insightful session on continuing education, where families received expert advice on navigating college with a disability. Saturday’s interactive support groups gave both children and parents a chance to connect, share experiences, and learn from one another. The evening featured a high-energy trivia night focused on medication safety.

Sunday featured a kids’ panel, where young warriors had the opportunity to engage in a Q&A with peers. Parents and caregivers gained valuable insights into clinical trials and how to stay informed on the latest research.

Ending on a Sweet Note

The retreat concluded with a farewell ice cream party, complete with sprinkles and ice cream scoopers included in the retreat box. Attendees celebrated their journey and got the first scoop on exciting plans for 2022!

A Weekend to Remember

The “What’s Your Superpower?” retreat was more than just a series of events—it was a celebration of resilience, courage, and community. From creative activities to educational sessions, every moment was designed to uplift and empower Pediatric Pain Warriors and their families. Until next time, keep shining and sharing your superpowers!
