How It All Began

POINTS FOR PAIN

Points for Pain is more than just a fundraiser—it was the catalyst for the creation of the U.S. Pain Foundation’s Pediatric Pain Program. It all started in 2015 with a seventh grader and a big desire: to help kids living with pain.

Tyler Cashman, just 12 years old at the time, wanted to make a difference in honor of his mom, Casey, who lives with chronic pain. Determined to take action, he came up with a simple yet powerful idea: a sports-driven fundraiser where individuals could pledge donations based on points scored in a game. The concept quickly took off, with schools and teams across the country joining in to support kids living with pain.

Since its inception, Points for Pain has raised over $110,000, with every dollar going toward programs that support children with chronic pain. These funds have helped launch and sustain the Pediatric Pain Warrior Program, making it possible to host multiple Pediatric Pain Warrior weekend retreats and sponsor families to attend—providing kids with chronic pain the chance to connect, find support, and simply be kids.

Tyler’s incredible efforts have not gone unnoticed. In 2019, he and Points for Pain were honored by the New York Yankees as part of their prestigious HOPE Week (Helping Others Persevere & Excel). HOPE Week recognizes individuals and organizations making a positive impact in their communities, and Tyler’s dedication to helping kids with pain stood out as an inspiring example of what one person can achieve with passion and determination.

What began as one seventh grader’s heartfelt mission has grown into a national movement, proving that even the smallest idea, fueled by compassion, can create lasting change.

Making A Difference Together

The Pediatric Pain Warrior Program hosted a fundraiser with BowTie Cause, featuring custom-designed bowties and scarves to support kids living with chronic pain. The bowtie was created through a collaboration with BowTie Cause, founded by former NFL linebacker Dhani Jones in honor of his childhood friend, a non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma survivor. A special thank you to Ken Rosenthal for wearing our bowtie during the 2019 baseball playoffs, further raising awareness for our cause.

The first-ever My Marathon fundraiser for the Pediatric Pain Warrior Program was a huge success! Families and supporters took on 26 movement activities throughout September, showcasing the resilience of kids living with chronic pain. From small steps to physical therapy sessions, every movement highlighted their unique journeys. Together, we raised awareness and vital funds to support our pain warriors—thanks to everyone who participated and shared their stories with #MyMarathon!

Thank you to our 2025 sponsors and in-kind donors for supporting our Pediatric Pain Warrior Program.
